DANCE MAJORS

Florida State University established their School of Dance over eighty years ago while offering an authentic, professional dance major for more than fifty of those years. The program at FSU claims to be “a pioneer and leader among dance college programs.” The mission the School of Dance has is to combine artistic training with a liberal arts education while touching all styles of dance ranging from traditional, classical ballet to original contemporary choreography. They aim “to provide an environment conducive to the highest caliber of dance training, art making and scholarship,” as they “cultivate the individual creative voice with exposure to diverse technical and philosophical approaches.” The Schools proficiency has helped graduates become professional dancers, teachers, and valued leaders in dance companies. The School of Dance is a home for all enrolled dance majors as well as around 400 students instructed per semester in classes open to the entire university.
